Hello, my name is Captain Jad Donaldson. I am a seasoned international fly fisherman and helmsman of the sport fishing vessel, The Oppor-TUNA-ty. I’ve been a sought after professional fly fishing guide for over 17 years and continue to lead world-class fishing adventures in the Pacific Northwest and around the globe. My stints as a professional fly fishing guide include New York, Pennsylvania, Alaska, and Oregon. I was recently diagnosed with a life threatening heart condition while obtaining my captain’s license with the USCG. By detecting the problem early, my life was saved. During my recovery, I was able to reflect on my life, my passions, and my future. Out of this time of uncertainty, I was blessed with a renewed outlook on life. This experience reinforced my feelings that you take the opportunities to make the things happen that you want to happen, when you have the chance. It is this mentality that has spawned, Opportunity Fly Fishing.
Now, with a deeper appreciation for life and the understanding that tomorrow isn’t promised, I continue my calling to share the sport I love with the world. Driven by my thirst for adventure and a passion for teaching, I use a mix of traditional fly fishing techniques, years of experience, and specialized, personal instruction to make all my guests, better and more successful anglers. I spend my year guiding for Oregon’s Summer and Winter Steelhead, beach fishing Baja’s stunning Roosterfish, and challenging the Pacific for the numerous and tasty Albacore tuna. As a specialist, guide, and instructor for Kaufmann’s Streamborn, I am aware of the best equipment on the market and have associated myself with one of the Pacific Northwest’s legendary institutions(www.kman.com). Whether it be joining me on a Portland-area day trip, floating for multiple days on an eastside river, or traveling to Christmas Island with me to chase bonefish and trevally.
